VIDEO KILLED THE RUNAWAY STAR: Local filmmaker and musician Joe Glickman was recently chosen to record a song for a Del Shannon tribute album, and his “So Long Baby” will appear on the effort—along with renderings by the Electric Light Orchestra, Randy Bachman and the Guess Who.

Glickman and his backup players, the Zippity Doo Wop Band (featuring members of the Refrigerators, the Swing Docs and the Cole Broderick Quintet, among others), intend to release the song on Glickman’s own Zippity Doo Wop Records. But they’re not stopping there, nosiree. The group will film a music video in the hopes that it will appear on MTV or VH1, and some shooting will take place this weekend, complete with ’50s-era cars, costumes and décor. Tomorrow (Friday, Aug. 2) crews will be at the Malta Drive-In from 2:30 to 6 AM—yep that’s AM—and there will be some fancy-pantsy old-timey (as they say in the South) cars. On Sunday (Aug. 4) they’ll be filming (yep they’re using the real thing) at the Fuze Box from 2:30 PM until midnight. The band scenes are scheduled to take place between 3 and 6 PM.
